A few weeks ago my brother Hayden was sitting in an airport waiting for his flight and watching CNN. While he was watching a report came on about a school in Atlanta, Georgia that was using some radical new approaches to education. He knows I’m very interested in new and diverse approaches to education, so he quickly sent me a text that read, “Check out the Ron Clark Academy. Just saw a CNN special on it. Looked very cool.”
I trust my brother’s recommendations, so I immediately went to check it out. Apparently the surge of interest generated from the CNN special had brought their official website down, but I headed right over to Google and found the following repot by Ann Curry on NBC’s Nightly News.
Ron Clark: Awards and Books
Ron Clark is a dynamic teacher that commands respect from his students; a respect that comes from his enthusiasm, as well as his dedication and belief in each student. Mr. Clark can regularly be found teaching rap songs or dancing on desks to reinforce lessons. His methods of teaching were so engaging and so successful (in terms of consistently increasing test scores) that in 2000 he was the recipient of Disney’s Teacher of the Year Award. Continue Reading →
